RISE

RISE - Refugee Integration & Self-Empowerment

The RISE intervention was launched in the US to assist Bhutanese refugees in Atlanta to handle high levels of trauma and stress associated with refugee migration and resettlement in a different cultural and physical environment.

RISE in Australia – Youth At Risk

Our first Youth at risk intervention was delivered in Perth, Western Australia, to Muslim migrant girls from the Australian Islamic College, who were subject to country-of-origin trauma and subsequent resettlement stress in a new culture with different dress, behavioural and language norms.

RISE in Australia

Though IMHS (International Medical Health Services) and Serco Australia, IAHV delivered several interventions at the purpose built Yongah Hill Immigration Detention centre in Northam, Western Australia.

Intervention participants were refugees who had undertaken perilous journeys by land and sea. These individuals were from many countries with different cultures, religions and languages.

They had left their families either as economic refugees hoping to resettle for future prosperity, or to escape torture and danger to their person in their countries of origin due to politics or genocide.

RISE Intervention Focus

The intervention’s primary focus is the relief of stress and trauma surrounding country-of-origin experiences, the migration journey, being in detention, fears about deportation or resettlement.

To temporarily stateless people, the intervention creates belonging by sharing and celebrating home cultures and history and provides attitudinal tools to assist with integration into a new society.
